Kate heaved a sigh as she sat down in her office chair, it was leather, and had too many buttons for her to handle. Laying sideways she let one leg drift over the other arm and rested her head back as she twirled slightly, pushing her toe against her desk. Everything was basically done, her room was packed up her new things had been ordered for her new room, and all she needed to do was grab a few books from her office. Spinning around full circle she became sad at what she saw, her office, through all her years of school had been dirty, clean, perfect, random and anything she wanted it to be. It had been a home on late nights when essays just wouldn’t turn out right, and now it had a sort of homey feel. All of thid stuff couldn’t come with though, she was going to the dorms, she couldn’t bring her huge bookshelf, her closet, her huge desk, and of course the leather chair. She spun back to face the phone, the new one she had bought herself, and decided to leave. Pulling her feet off of the arm she swung them down and reached for the phone, picking up the headset and listening for a second. There was a pause, but she reached towards the phone and hit one button. She leaned back in her chair, crossed her legs and slumped down.

“Hello?” Kate paused not sure what to say first, “Anna, it’s me…” her voice trailed off to suggest that her mood was not her normal happy self. There was rustling heard in the background and a TV turned on. “So, how’s the packing going? Did we get it all the other day?” Playing with the folds on her shirt Kate answered, “yeah, I’m all done, just kind of bummed that I can’t take my office, I’m going to miss it.” The other side laughed, “first of all, it’s an office, second you’re the one who decided to trek all the way across the country for college…you could have stayed here with me and have had your office.” Leaving the folds alone now she looked over at her walls, covered with articles, cards, pictures, and memories, “yeah, but you know scholarships and all, plus I really like Boston…a lot.” There was a small uncomfortable pause before Anna responded, “oh, come on, you know you got accepted to a really good school, and you deserve it, ‘cause you’re so smart and stuff.” Kate didn’t want to respond to that, she was afraid of being full of herself and rubbing it in her face. “You know, Anna…I’ve been thinking about Cam…I don’t know what to do. I mean this last year has been so great, even him being in college didn’t bother us, but the thing was he was still in the same town. Now I’m moving to Boston, and he’ll be here.” Anna could be heard rustling a bag of potato chips, “well he was there for you this year, I’m sure he could have done other things, I mean he did, but still. Haven’t you guys talked about this yet?” Kate looked down, ashamed, “no, not at all, I think that he thinks we’ve just agreed on something. I just don’t know what that is yet.” The other line paused to respond, “well that sounds like a responsible relationship.” There folllowed a pause, one where both were entertained one by TV the other by her office. Kate talked fist, “ok, I guess I need to call him, we’ve always been independent and so, I guess I just don’t know what this agreement is…” Anna ate another chip, “yeah, that’s cool, call me before you go though, maybe we should do something tonight. Doesn’t matter though, just give me a call and we’ll figure it out.” They said their goodbyes and hung up, Kate put the phone down just long enough for it to hang up when the phone rang, surprised she glanced at the phone, and picked it up, “hi, this is Kate, how can I help you?” The other line cleared his throat, “Kate, it’s me, I just wanted to call and talk to you before you go.” Kate sat normally in her chair, “Cam, I think we need to talk about this whole us thing, just be blunt about it…” Kate returned to her crouched position on the chair as…
